LAB

A living lab, in dialogue with time and materiality. The Adê de Canela LAB is where ritual meets experimentation. A space in movement, where we explore with shapes, textures and techniques that blend Afro-Arabic heritage, Brazilian folklore and contemporary design.

Here we explore, we transform and honour. Our choice of noble materials and conscious rhythms is not only for sustainability reasons, but to keep coherent.

Each Adê is born slowly.

We do not repeat formulas. We respect each creation’s process and treat it as a living being.

3D PRINTING

To honour the ancestry that Adê de Canela celebrates in great contemporary style we have 3D Design and Printing as our go-to tool. Parametric design allows for such a close embrace of nature’s geometry, that same geometry that has been the object of Afro-Arabic and Brazilian folkloric aesthetics. This process and its tools are part of our language in order to achieve making in a whole other spectrum while - yes! - still keeping our 3D printed materials as sustainable as we can and using additive processes that generate minimum material waste.

HANDMADE

Alongside the 3D realm, as any other cultural artifact, Adê de Canela’s creations are truly crafted in a manual, slow, careful way. Each beaded string is hand beaded to its very precise measurement. Each studio-sewn silk is added to its 3D printed base with care by hand. All flowers and other attachments that are added to the piece on metallic supports are done so with time by one of our makers. Speaking of our makers, their craftsmanship and dedication is something we’re beyond grateful for. Especially starting off as such a small studio! Thank you lovelies. If you want to get to know them a little go to our narrative - behind the scenes.

MATERIALS

We choose each material used on your Adê de Canela with a love of love, trying out and experimenting with durability vs. quality vs. sustainability. We try to keep our provider chain locally within Barcelona as all our products are hand made and assembled at our Barcelona-based studio with their Brazilian Soul. Especially when it comes to 3D printed filaments we keep to the most biodegradable ones in the market that allow us a quality print: PLA, a polymer made from Corn Starch. This is a polymer that biodegrades within an average of 100 years, which when compared to others that may take 1000, 1 million years or never fully decompose is a good step. We also keep an eye out for new material discoveries in the 3D printing environment in order to test new more sustainable filaments out. The woven items are all made of natural fibres, silk and cotton especially. The beading is either 3D printed or glass beads from end-of-stock providers that would discard them otherwise.
